Labor Day/Back To School; Aquarium Remodel; Missing Teen; Reedsport Water Repair

Labor Day/Back To School

City of Florence Offices will be closed on Monday in observance of Labor day.  Critical services will still be operating. On Wednesday September 7th the city will hold a bbq for students as they go back to school.  City Manager Erin Reynolds.

“In part of continuing to engage with the community as a community partner and highlighting our school resource officer program and all of those that it takes to have a good, safe community so that all of our kids can have a great education.”

It will take place from 3 to 7 pm at Miller Park.  Reynolds also reminds the public that buses will be back on the road and to remember to stop for buses that are loading and unloading students. And to be especially vigilant during the early morning and early afternoon as traffic to and from the schools will be increased.

Aquarium Remodel

The Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport continues to undergo renovations to its facility.  As part of its capital campaign the facility will undergo major renovations to its indoor galleries and café.  It will also be constructing a new gallery dedicated to sea jellies.  Construction is expected to go through the winter months and be completed in spring of 2023. The galleries and café will close beginning September 6th.

Missing Teen

The Oregon Department of Human services has put out a statewide alert for a missing 16 year old female.  Franki Tuloula Mae Salyers-Livingston went missing on August 23rd from the Portland area and is believed to

be in danger.  She stands 5 foot one inch tall and weighs about 100 pounds with dyed red hair and brown eyes.  She also has a septum piercing and both nostrils are pierced.

Reedsport Water Repair

The City of Reedsport will undertake a water line repair.  This comes on the heels of several waterline breaks in recent weeks.  Repairs will begin tomorrow morning at 8 am and city officials say homes along Alder avenue will experience water outages until the repairs are completed.  The city asks if you can avoid the area until the repairs are completed
