Clamming Prohibited
Clamming along the Oregon Coast has been closed by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. According to testing results the amount of the toxin demoic acid has exceeded healthy limits. Clamming had been closed along the northern coast line for weeks, but during the two week testing cycle it had been necessary to include the entire coast line. The ODFW says that Bay harvesting of clams is still open for recreational clammers and crabbing is still open. Mussel harvesting remains closed for areas north of Yachats due to a paralytic shellfish poison, a marine biotoxin.
