Weather

Weather and rain continue to be in the forecast for the Oregon Coast.  After a brief period of sunshine on Saturday rain returned Sunday and will continue through tonight until leveling off on Tuesday.  Snow on Friday from Mapleton into Veneta with some areas getting up to 3 inches caused delays for those heading to Eugene.  There will be a slight potential for snow along the coast again on Tuesday with snow levels dropping to around 800 feet before rising again Tuesday afternoon.  Some relief is in sight with sunny skies and temperatures close to 60 by Thursday.  Overnight the Florence area saw just over an inch and a quarter of rainfall and the potential of another half to three quarters of an inch is in today’s forecast.  Similar conditions are expected today in Mapleton.

Rotary Auction

The numbers have not been released yet, although the preliminary numbers on the live auction topped $47,000, but Saturday’s Rotary Auction at the Florence Events Center was well attended after a two year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Costumes depicting dozens of different board games, card games and dominoes were prelavent.  OPB President Ron Green was the MC for the event.  Blair and Bob Sneddon shared duties for the Live Auction.  Monies generated will benefit scholarships for students from Siuslaw and Mapleton Schools.  Green also introduced the 2023 Rhododendron Court to the audience.

Job Fair

This Friday at Siuslaw High School is the Student Job Fair.  The event is hosted by the high school with the intent of allowing students to become familiar with the job hunting process and even potentially scoring a job.  Organizer, Pam Hickson says students will be able to hone their skills and present resume’s to prospective employers, while simultaneously allowing potential employers to get a sense of the local youth job pool.  There will be military recruitment, Oregon Department of Transportation, Goodwill Job Connections along with dozens of local businesses.  The event will take place from 11am until 2 pm.
