Crash Investigation

The investigation into a vehicle crash last month that claimed the life of a Florence man is under investigation.  31-year-old Logan Jacob Scott was killed when the car he was driving was stuck broadside by a Ford F250 driven by 24-year-old Ravi Artemus Polini of Fort Bragg, California.  The crash occurred just after ten PM, Saturday, June 24th.  Scott was at a stop sign on Sutton Lake Road; Polini was traveling northbound on Highway 101 when his truck travelled off the road, striking Scott’s car, killing the Florence man instantly.   According to the Oregon State Police, reconstruction of the crash is on-going and once it is complete, the case could be referred to the Lane County DA’s office for prosecution.

Yet Another Scam

A concerned resident of Florence forwarded Coast Radio News a letter they had received in their email regarding missing information on their 2023 Tax Return.  The letter had the IRS logo and was requesting the recipient to fill out important missing information on their recent returns.  The letter promised an additional $976 dollars in refunds.  The IRS recently addressed the fake letters saying that the agency would not ask for the types of information included in the letter like a clear photograph of your valid driver’s license.  If you receive an email containing this letter the IRS asks that you contact the treasury department.  Always verify any information you receive and never give personal or financial information out.

Gas Prices

Marie Dodds with AAA Oregon says gas prices remain flat this week with about half of the states, including Oregon seeing a very small decline.  Oregon saw a 2cent decrease in price to $4.62 a gallon.  Crude oil prices are up near $74 dollars a barrel up from $70 dollars last week. Florence prices for regular gas are averaging $4.50 a gallon with gas as cheap as $4.42 and as high as $4.65.  dodds says demand is at its highest level so far at about 9.6 million barrels per day.  She says supply also dropped by 2.5 million barrels.
