Missing Boy

An 11-year old boy, in foster care in Springfield, is missing and believed to be in danger. The Child Welfare Division of the Oregon Department of Human Services says Chayton Owings has family in Florence and

may attempt to travel to the coast.  He has been missing since Monday.  Owings is known to spend time near Highway 99 and Roosevelt Blvd in Eugene as well as at different unhoused encampments.  He s 4-foot-7, 67 poinds with brown hair and blue-gray eyes.  The public is asked to notify 9-1-1 or local law enforcement if you believe you have seen him.

Off-Shore Wind Farms

Two sites off the southern Oregon Coast could soon be home to the state’s first floating offshore wind farms.  But first, the federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management wants to hear from interested parties, some of whom are concerned about possible impacts to the fishing industry and marine ecosystems.  According to a report issued by the B.O.E.M. two areas are under consideration. One off the coast between Gold Beach and Bandon.  The other, much larger area extends offshore between the Siuslaw River and to just north of Bandon with the most suitable site located about 35 miles offshore between Florence and Reedsport. Information on the project, including how to comment, is below.

Gas Prices Still Climbing

No relief at the pumps.  That’s according to Marie Dodds with AAA Oregon.  Crude oil  prices continue to be volatile as they reach the lower 80’s for a barrel.  Oregon added three more cents to $4.69 for a gallon of regular.  The national average is still below $4. At $3.86.  here on the coast the prices have also ticked upward selling on average at $4.56 a gallon.  Dodds says it is unclear if there will be any relief before the end of the summer driving season.
