Winter Music Festival

The Winter Music Festival is just about a month away.  According to FACE President Rachel Pearson the ticket sales have been brisk.  Every year they offer two-day passes for music lovers to enjoy the festival at a discounted rate over single day passes, but if you are lookin for a pair together it is probably too late.

“Almost all of the 250 tickets of the two-day passes are sold, there are a couple of singletons left.”

But Pearson says not to despair.  There are still plenty of concert tickets available.  Judy Dolmatch is one of the volunteers that assists Pearson in the organizing and says local talent will also have an opportunity to shine during the Festival at the Hootenany on Thursday evening January 25th.

“this is a way for us to see some of our local talent who can come and perform up to two songs and be seen and received and applauded by the audience.”

That event is free to the public. Tickets can be purchased at the Florence Events Center box office or online at eventcenter-dot-org.  For a list of artists performing at the Winter Music Festival you can visit the festival’s website at wintermusicfestival.org.

Memorial Set for Reedsport City Attorney

The City of Reedsport is mourning the passing of their City Attorney, Steve Miller.  Miller succumbed to health issues on November 30th brought on by a stroke last May.  Miller had been with the city since the 70’s and was on the board of the Reedsport Main Street Program.  The memorial will be held at the Mindpower Gallery on Fir Avenue in Reedsport on January 13th from 1-3 pm.

Aquarium Sleepover

The term ‘sleep with the fishes’ usually brings up a negative connotation in American lore, but the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport is putting a positive spin on it.  They are bringing back the “Sleep in the Deep” event that allows groups to spend the night in the aquarium surrounded by sharks and other sea life.  Beginning in January groups from 20 to 60 can participate in a one of a kind sleepover on Tuesday and Thursdays and on the first and third Friday of each month.  Details for the sleepover can be found at aquarium.org/sleepovers.

Christmas Meal

The Florence Elks lodge will be holding the annual community Christmas Dinner on Monday. The meal is free to the public and the Elks will be serving a traditional Turkey dinner.  Hours for the meal are from noon until 3 pm.
