Cleanup Continues
Storm cleanup continues around the state as another storm prepares to move through the area on Wednesday. The Oregon Department of Transportation is continuing clearing of debris and repair of guardrails along the 126 corridor this week and areas of Highway 101 are also getting some attention as debris from slides is still on the side of the roadway just north of Sea Lion Caves. Heavy rain and high winds are expected in the next round of storms, but the National Weather Service has downgraded the severity of the storm from early predictions last week. It is also expected to move through more quickly and not camp over the state. ODOT says there may be up to 20 minute delays on 126 and on Highway 36 as work continues. ODOT reported that employees have put in over 20,000 hours of overtime in the cleanup efforts.
Crash Investigation
The Oregon state police are still conducting their investigation on the crash and death from last week’s accident that shut down Highway 101 just south of the bridge last Monday, but they have released the names of those involved. 70 year old Timothy Shane Sweet was driving his Toyota Tacoma southbound at 4:14 am when he struck 36 year old Justin Robert Warmuth also of Florence. According to OSP Warmuth was standing in the southbound lane of Highway 101 in dark clothing when he was hit and killed. Sweet was not injured. The roadway was shut down for approximately 4.5 hours during the initial investigation.
Winter Musical Festival
Locals and visitors came out in numbers over the weekend to experience the Winter Music Festival. The house was near full levels on both nights for the 24th rendition.
