Access to Shelters and Housing

A program to improve access and reduce barriers to shelters and housing options in Lane County was introduced by Lane County Human Services. The services combine the Lane County Coordinated Web Portal, the Real Time Shelter Finder and a new partnership with 211 to help improve the experience for those that are seeking shelter or looking to find the next step in housing. The LCCE will help to standardize assessment, prioritization and referrals with the aim to make it easier to access services. The real time shelter finder will give an up to the minute availability of shelters around the county.  James Ewell is an outreach coordinator for Lane County and says the new collaboration will help streamline the process, making it less redundant and help to improve efficiency at the shelters themselves. More information can be found at lanecountyor.gov/housinghelp.

Yachats Featured

The World Atlas has named our neighbors to the north in Yachats one of the 11 vibrant cities in Oregon.  the list includes Ashland, Bend and Joseph as well as Jacksonville, Astoria and Hood River.  The World Atlas chose Yachats for its breathtaking landscapes, rugged coastlines and community and cultural offerings.

Sneaker Waves

The threat of increased sneaker wave activity will be apparent along the Oregon Coast beginning today and lasting through the weekend.  Most of the activity will be to the north of Florence, however beachgoers should be aware of the potential which could drag an individual or a pet into the waters.  The addition of debris can also be deadly.  The coast will also see the last of the King Tides this weekend.

Pet Planning Event

Tomorrow is the Oregon Coast Humane Society’s Pet planning event.  The public is invited to receive information on how to make sure that your pet is cared for in the case of death or other debilitating illness.  The event will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Highway 101 and Heceta Beach Road at 1pm.
