School Board Meeting
The Siuslaw School District Board of Directors had its first meeting of the academic year last night. A “Staff Attire” policy presented to the board last school year was passed unanimously. There were minor changes from the original policy that account for more casual Fridays and that allow for school spirit “gear”. The policy states that on student contact days staff must minimally meet student dress codes at all times. Other agenda items passed include: the declaration of Budget Committee openings; Review of the Integrated Guidance Grant and the Operating Agreement for the Board of Directors. Brian Lacouture and Maureen Mitltenberger were reelected as chair and vice chair, and the board reviewed the Siuslaw Valley Charter School Contract. It will be given a second reading at the September 11 meeting.
Lane County Commissioners
The Lane County Board of Commissioners will meet next Wednesday in executive session with two agenda items. One will be to discuss with legal counsel on their legal rights and duties as a public body with regard to current litigation or litigation likely to be filed. The second will be deliberations with persons designated by the governing board to carry on labor negotiations. The sessions are expected to occur back to back beginning at 10:00 am. The public is not permitted in the executive sessions, but members of the media are permitted.
Striping 126
Striping the lines on Highway 126 yesterday caused long delays for drivers. Drivers reported 10-15 mph speeds from Mapleton towards Eugene yesterday morning. The Oregon Department of Transportation has been working in Florence and the surrounding area for the past week, causing delays on roadways. The stretch of 126 will take a couple of days to complete and drivers are asked to be cautious. Using highway 36 is an alternative.
