Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate senior Siuslaw Harrier Clayton Wilson as this week’s Athlete of the Week who finished second in Saturday’s Woahink Lake XC Invitational. Clayton holds the third fastest time for the 5000 meter in Siuslaw History and led the Siuslaw boy’s team to a first place finish.
Honorable Mention
Honorable Mention goes to Jolee Erickson who dominated on offense with 7 service aces and 9 kills. She scored 17 of the team’s 52 total points against South Umpqua. She hit the ball so hard and accurately on Tuesday and added another 9 kills against Glide on Thursday. She has been a stat leader all season but played a very impressive match at South Umpqua- her best this season.
Viking Soccer
The Siuslaw Vikings faced the Creswell Bulldogs at Hans Petersen Field on Monday. The team started strong, demonstrating good passing and ball movement, creating multiple scoring opportunities with 14 shots in the first half. However, they were unable to find the net. Creswell capitalized on a long pass, scoring late in the half, leading 1-0 at the break. The second half saw Creswell ramp up their aggression, scoring three more goals, two from throw-ins and one from the top of the box. Despite nine shots on goal, the Vikings finished without a score, losing 4-0. They look to bounce back in their next match against East Linn Christian on Thursday at 4:30 PM. the Viking girls were also on the field against Creswell falling 3-0.
JV and Varsity Volleyball will host Douglas this evening beginning at 4:30 with the JV up first.
Mapleton Volleyball was on the court against Mohawk. The Sailors fell in 3 sets.
