Viking football still undefeated
The Douglas Trojans took an early 14-0 lead over Siuslaw Friday night at Hans Petersen Field. But, the Vikings quickly got back on track, ultimately outscoring the Trojans 38-30. Three minutes into the second quarter Max Reynolds got Siuslaw on the board for the first time with a 5-yard TD run. Joel Sissell blocked a Trojan punt on Douglas’s next possession, giving Siuslaw a short field to work with and Micah Blankenship quickly scored on a 30-yard run, putting the Vikings up 16-14. Both teams traded scores in the second half. Jake Mann put the exclamation point on the game with a 2 yard dive into the end zone with a minute-23 left for the final score. The win propelled the Viks to the number one spot in the OSAA rankings. They’ll host the Sutherlin Bulldogs Friday night for Homecoming.

Fastest Viking – 5000 Meters

Friday afternoon senior Clayton Wilson became the fastest Viking to ever finish the 5000 meter run.  Wilson finished with a time of 14:58.4 and finished in the 10th spot for the 4th annual Rose City Championship in Portland. He competed in the Ash Creek XC Festival on Saturday where he place 17th.

Volleyball

Mapleton Volleyball will be on the court today with a home stand against Falls City/Kings Valley Charter.  Game time is 4pm.

Soccer

Viking boy’s soccer will host Central Linn today at 6:30. The Viking girls will host Elmira at 4:30

Duck Football

A new tradition at Autzen Stadium has fans singing along to a Dolly Parton tune after every game this season. Saturday night’s record-breaking crowd of 60,129 enjoyed one of the most thrilling games in stadium history as No. 3 Oregon edged out No. 2 Ohio State, 32-31. Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns, while kicker Atticus Sappington sealed the victory with a 19-yard field goal. Defensive lineman Matayo Uiagalelei’s late-game sack helped secure the win, sending fans rushing the field to celebrate one of Autzen’s most memorable nights.

Beaver Football

Despite setting new season highs, Oregon State couldn’t complete a fourth-quarter comeback, falling 42-37 to Nevada on Saturday night. Anthony Hankerson led the Beavers’ offense with 154 rushing yards and a career-best three touchdowns, while quarterback Gevani McCoy threw for 348 yards and a touchdown. Oregon State led 17-14 at halftime, but Nevada outscored the Beavers 28-20 in the second half. McCoy’s potential game-winning pass was intercepted in the endzone with just seven seconds left, sealing the loss. The Beavers will return to Reser Stadium next week for Homecoming against UNLV. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
