Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate senior Cross Country Runner Clayton Wilson for a second week as he broke the Siuslaw High School Record for the 5000 meter previously held by Mack Marbas in 2013. Clayton’s 14.58.4 bested Marbas by 14.6 seconds. He is on pace to be one of the fastest in 3A competition this year.
Honorable mention goes to Joel Sissel who had two tackles, 5 assists, 1 sack, 2 tackles for loss, AND blocked a punt. In the Vikings win against Douglas on Friday.
Viking Soccer
Siuslaw Vikings played a hard-fought soccer match against Central Linn last night, with both teams vying for second place in the league. The Vikings struck first when Noah Gonzalez scored, thanks to an assist from Charles Nelson. However, Central Linn responded, tying the game 1-1 before halftime. Vikings’ defender Terrance Masterman left the game due to an injury after the equalizer. In the second half, Central Linn took the lead with a header, but the Vikings pressed on. In the final minutes, Charles Nelson delivered again, scoring off a corner kick to tie the game 2-2. The Vikings’ defense, led by Joel Bates, Ramil Beers, and Camden Linton, was crucial in holding off Central Linn, resulting in a draw.
Viking Girls also had a win against Elmira 6-2
Mapleton Volleyball fell to Elkton in 3 sets last night.
