Mapleton Basketball

The Mapleton Sailors edged out the Siletz Valley Warriors in a thrilling 54-45 victory Saturday evening. In a back-and-forth battle, the Sailors led 28-27 at halftime and pulled ahead in the third quarter, thanks to freshman Kam Wilson’s seven-point surge. Senior Alex Burnett fouled out with four minutes left, forcing the Sailors to rely on their young lineup. Senior Dom Stewart took control in crunch time, forcing three turnovers and scoring six late points to seal the win. Stewart led with 18 points and seven steals, while Wilson and sophomore Roenin Barrows added 14 points each. The Sailors, now 2-0, face the Eddyville Eagles Tuesday night at 5:30.

Viking Basketball

After a fairly even battle Friday against South Umpqua, with the lady Vikings falling 31-43, they faced Myrtle Point on Saturday in the Bandon Dunes Holiday Invitational 47-16 to fall 1-10 on the season.

The Viking boys had a different outcome on their trip to Bandon.  Friday night they outscored Myrtle Point 58-38 and then turned around on Saturday to crush La Pine 70-23.  The Vikings now head to Toledo for boys and girls games tomorrow.  Those games will be aired on KCST.

College Hoops

The Oregon Ducks outlasted Maryland last night in Eugene taking the victory 83-79. Jackson Shelstad led all scorers with 23.

The Oregon State Beavers defeated San Diego on Saturday 81-54.

Viking Wrestling

The Siuslaw Vikings wrestlers showcased their talent at the Rollie Lane Invitational in Nampa, Idaho, competing against over 170 teams last weekend. Macali Lade shined again, finishing second and pinning Oregon state champion Lyndon Isaacson in the 120-pound class. Danin Lacouture also impressed, placing third at 138. Abby Riggs went 4-2, and Tosha Abraham finished 2-2. On the boys’ side, Jacob Mann secured third in the 215 weight class, while Leonardo Robertson earned his first major tournament placement with a seventh-place finish. Closer to home, Molly Mills placed third at Sutherlin’s Invitational, and at the King of the Hill in Pleasant Hill, Gage Mills tied for fifth, and Ali Ijaz placed sixth. Viking coaches are thrilled with the team’s progress and performances!
