Weekend Sports Recap

It was a wild weekend in High School Sports.  After losing a tough battle in Douglas on Friday the Siuslaw Viking boys had to travel to Reedsport on Saturday to face Sutherlin.  It was originally thought to be a seeding game for the upcoming Far West League playoffs, however it turned out to be a season ending game for the Vikings falling to Sutherlin 56-41.  The Vikings 8-2 league record was not enough to advance them to the playoffs.  The Mapleton Sailor boys were also on the cusp of a playoff run and it was first thought that a 61-64 upset by Alsea on Saturday would put the Sailors out of contention, however they were given the last spot in the playoffs and will face the  Country Christian Cougars on Wednesday at 6pm.

The Viking girls basketball team ended their season on Friday with a win over Douglas 47-23. Macy McNeill (win @ Douglas) led the team with 16 points and 9 rebounds, and had 3 steals and 3 assists including 4 3-pointers.

The Mapleton Sailor girls basketball secured their playoff spot with a win over triangle lake on Friday pouncing on the Lakers 52-11.  They will the Powder Valley Badgers tomorrow from the Sailor Dome beginning at 6pm.

The Oregon Ducks extended their win streak to 4 after defeating #11 Wisconsin on Saturday 77-73. Nate Bittle led the charge with 23.  The OSU Beavers defeated San Diego on Saturday 83-73. Michael Rataj had 29 for the Beavs.

In Wrestling 4 viking boys will be heading to the State Championships this Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Portland.  Leo Robertson, Gage Mills and Jacob Mann all won district championships over the weekend in Elmira and Chuck Nelson was a third place victor, but it was enough to get him an invitation to the championships. For the girls Macali Lade has a target on her back after receiving the #1 ranking for the state championships. Danin Lacouture and Abby Riggs were ranked 6 and 9th respectively in their weight classes.
