Preseason Practice

Oregon football kicked off its second week of preseason practice Monday, just three weeks ahead of the Ducks’ season opener on August 30th. Following a day off Sunday, the team returned to the field with co-coordinators Drew Mehringer and Chris Hampton praising both veteran leadership and strong competition among younger players. Mehringer highlighted the return of tight end Roger Saleapaga from injury, calling his energy “full-go.” Hampton noted transfer corner Theran Johnson had one of his best practices yet. The team’s off-day schedule continues Thursdays and Sundays until game week.

Beaver Player on List

Oregon State’s Dylan Black has been named to the Patrick Mannelly Award Watch List, honoring the nation’s top long snapper. A redshirt senior from Reno, Nevada, Black has appeared in 46 games for the Beavers and was a semifinalist for the 2024 Witten Man of the Year Award. Off the field, he’s been active in community service, including trips with Beavers Without Borders to the Dominican Republic, volunteering with St. Jude’s Fun Run, and assisting disabled individuals through the Dam Able program. Finalists for the award will be announced December 1st.

Sailor Football

The Mapleton Sailors have finalized their nine-game regular-season schedule as they return to six-man football this fall. Led by first-year head coach Jack Devereaux and assistant Justin Gaston, the Sailors open on the road Friday, September 5th at Crow, followed by their home opener on Saturday, September 13th against North Lake. Mapleton will play two non-league games before entering a seven-game league slate. Practice starts Monday, August 18th. The Sailors are one of 29 teams competing in Oregon’s 1A six-man football division.
