City Council Meets Tonight
The Florence City Council meets tonight at City Hall. On the agenda is a proclamation recognizing National Patriotism Week. Councilors will also consider approving the purchase of a new Public Works dump truck, along with discussing how to fill a vacancy on the Florence Urban Renewal Agency. Options include appointing Library Board Alternate Tracey Miller or opening a full recruitment process. Another item is a liquor license ownership change for The Laughing Crab on Bay Street, with staff recommending approval. Council will also review the city prosecutor’s contract and minutes from a recent work session. Rounding out the meeting are committee reports, department updates, and the City Manager’s report. Tonight’s session begins at 5:30 and can be viewed online or on Channel 191
Paint Recycling
Summer is peak season for home improvement, and experts remind us to reuse and recycle leftover paint when projects are done. PaintCare, a nonprofit created by paint companies, launched Oregon’s paint recycling program in 2010. Program manager Lauren Scher says leftover paint is reused when possible, or blended into new recycled-content paint. Locally, paint can be dropped off at Florence Habitat for Humanity. Scher recommends buying only what you need, storing paint properly, and giving away extra to friends or neighbors. When it’s no longer useful, recycle the rest through PaintCare.
Goodwill Round Up
This week, customers at the Florence Goodwill store can round up their purchases to support the Lane County Veterans Stand Down. Funds raised through the Round Up for Stand Down will help provide services and goods to local veterans and their families. Organizers say the effort is part of Goodwill’s broader veteran services, which include job connections and programs to assist veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The campaign runs through Saturday, August 23rd at the Florence Goodwill.
