Workshop For Business
Business leaders on the Central Coast will soon have a chance to learn how to strengthen their bottom line during uncertain economic times. A free workshop, Access to Capital: Financing for Resilient Businesses, is scheduled for Tuesday, September 17th, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Florence Events Center. The session comes as many small businesses weigh how new federal tariff policies could impact supply costs and consumer prices. Analysts say those changes may force some companies to adjust strategies quickly in order to stay competitive. Marc Bellantoni with Business Oregon will lead the workshop, outlining practical steps for securing financing, explaining funding tools available to both startups and expanding businesses, and sharing real-life success stories. The program will also include a Q&A session and opportunities for one-on-one follow-ups. The Florence Area Chamber of Commerce is cosponsoring the event, along with the City of Florence, Business Oregon, and Rain Catalysts.
Financial Cuts For Oregon
Oregon officials say families are facing increased financial strain, pointing to cuts in federal funding and economic uncertainty tied to trade policies. According to state budget documents, the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans have approved $15 billion in reductions to essential services over the next six years. Oregon’s share amounts to nearly $888 million in lost funding this year. State leaders warn the cuts could impact housing programs, schools, and basic services. They stress the need for careful budgeting and say resilience will be key as Oregon works to stretch resources and protect vulnerable families.
Reedsport Officer Honored
At Monday night’s Reedsport City Council meeting, Police Officer Mike Snyder was honored with the Life Saving Award for his actions during a house fire on August 16th. Authorities say Snyder entered the burning home through a garage filled with heavy smoke and flames, where reloading equipment was exploding inside. Despite the danger, he rescued four people, including one in a wheelchair. Police Chief Bill Cutshall presented the award, saying Snyder’s quick response and bravery saved four lives that day.
