Viking Volleyball
The Siuslaw Vikings volleyball team went 1-3 at Thursday’s Marshfield Jamboree in Coos Bay, opening the season against some of the top teams on the coast. The Lady Vikings defeated Newport 25-14, but fell to Marshfield, North Bend, and Coquille. Senior Kylee Stinger led with 11 digs, 6 assists, 4 kills and 4 aces, while junior Stella Duman added 6 kills, 8 assists, 5 blocks and 6 digs. Senior Mia Snider chipped in 7 kills. Siuslaw hosts Pleasant Hill in their season opener Tuesday at 6 p.m. on Glenn Butler Court.
Ems Clinch
The Eugene Emeralds have officially clinched the Northwest League’s second-half championship with a win over the Everett AquaSox, earning a trip back to the league finals for the first time since 2022. The best-of-five championship series will open in Eugene, with games one and two at PK Park on September 9th and 10th. First pitch for game one is set for 6:35 p.m. The Emeralds are chasing their ninth overall league title, and their third since moving to High-A. the Emeralds dropped game 6 against Everett last night 7-5, the Ems took the series 5-1.
College Football
The Oregon Ducks opened their football season with an impressive win over Montana State. The Ducks scored on each of their possessions racking up 59 points while holding their opponents to just 13. The ducks now look to Oklahoma State this Saturday. The Cal Bears held the OSU Beavers to just 3 points in the first half defeating the beavers 34-15.
