Viking Defeat

The Siuslaw Vikings were stunned by the Marshfield Pirates on Friday night.  While the Vikings managed to score 22 points it was not enough to hold off the charging Pirates who put up 45 points in the win.

Boys Soccer

Dayton defeated Siuslaw 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Hans Petersen Field. The Vikings matched Dayton stride for stride, with Yair Brito Xilot scoring the lone goal for Siuslaw on a cross-goal shot after weaving past several defenders. Dayton capitalized with two first-half goals, including one off a free kick and another on a defensive miscue. Siuslaw had 18 shots on goal, narrowly missing on multiple headers and close-range attempts, while keeper Terrance Masterman tallied 24 saves. The Vikings face Marshfield next, Tuesday at 4:30, again at Hans Petersen Field.

Cross Country

3 of the top six finishers in Friday’s Cross Country meet were Siuslaw Vikings.  In the 5000 meter race sophomore Bentley Nelson took the 3rd place slot with a time of 16:46.89 followed by Ezra King in 4th place and Sailor Jensen taking the 6th slot.  For the girls it was Adylin Holbrook with a 4th place finish. Mapleton’s Natalee Stevens took the 7th spot and Viking’s freshman Pearl Jensen finished in 8th.

Oregon Ducks

Oregon football rolled to 2-0 with a 69-3 rout of Oklahoma State before more than 57,000 at Autzen Stadium. The Ducks exploded early, scoring on back-to-back plays — a 59-yard run by Noah Whittington and a 65-yard TD catch by freshman Dakorien Moore. Quarterback Dante Moore threw for 266 yards and three scores, while the offense piled up 631 total yards, split almost evenly between rushing and passing. The defense added two pick-sixes in the third quarter and held the Cowboys to just a field goal. Oregon opens Big Ten play next week on the road at Northwestern.

Oregon State Beavers

Oregon State came up just short in a late rally, falling 37-26 to Fresno State on Saturday. Quarterback Maalik Murphy threw for 371 yards and four touchdowns, with Taz Reddicks leading the receivers at 11 catches for 158 yards. Anthony Hankerson added 136 rushing yards, moving into the top 40 on OSU’s career rushing list. The Beavers took a brief lead in the final minutes after a quick 68-yard scoring drive, but Fresno answered with a field goal and a pick-six to put the game away. Oregon State drops to 0-2 on the season.
