Viking Football

The Siuslaw Viking football team was anxious to get back on the field after their loss to Cascade Christian.  The Vikings scored at will against La Pine holding them scoreless. Due to the lopsided score several Vikings got the chance to get in the game, Ryan denning with one lucky freshman

Raudy gets the snap, he turns it, hands it, that’s going to be Skip Lacouture…touchdown..first of many touchdowns for him, the freshman 5’6” 135 in for 6.

The Vikings put up 68 points and now prepare for league play this Friday against South Umpqua.

Viking Volleyball

iuslaw Vikings varsity volleyball team had a strong showing Saturday at the Junction City Tournament, competing as the only 3A school. After splitting pool play, the Vikings upset Gladstone in bracket play before falling in a tight three-set match to Newport. Standout performances came from Stella Duman with 25 kills, Kylee Stinger with 11 kills and 26 digs, and freshman Maren Hughes contributing four kills and a block.

Cross Country

Siuslaw dominated the Woahink Lake Invitational at Honeyman State Park, with sophomores Henry Stone and Ezra King finishing first and second to lead the Viking boys to the team title. Bentley Nelson, Sailor Jensen, and Kale Jensen also placed in the top 10. On the girls side, Adylin Holbrook finished second, Pearl Jensen seventh, and Abigail Jones 10th as Siuslaw took second overall. Mapleton’s Natalee Stevens finished fourth.

College Football

Oregon’s playoff hopes are alive after a thriller at Beaver Stadium. The sixth-ranked Ducks beat No. 3 Penn State 30-24 in double overtime before more than 111,000 fans. Dante Moore threw three touchdown passes, including two in overtime, and Dillon Thieneman sealed the win with an interception on Penn State’s first play of the second OT. Oregon moves to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Big Ten play heading into a bye week.

Oregon State fell to Houston 27-24 in overtime Friday night, dropping to 0-5 on the season. Maalik Murphy threw for 201 yards, while Trent Walker had 103 receiving yards. The Beavers led 24-10 in the fourth quarter, but the Cougars scored 17 unanswered points to steal the win. Cornell Hatcher Jr. rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
