Soccer
The Siuslaw boys soccer team hit the road October 28 for a non-league tune-up against Pacific/Bandon, filling what would have been a two-week gap before the playoffs. The Vikings started slow, struggling to find rhythm in the first half and giving up an own goal on a misplayed pass-back, trailing 1–nil at halftime. Siuslaw came out sharper in the second half, controlling possession and movement. About 15 minutes in, Asher Borgnino knocked in a rebound to tie it up. Borgnino scored again moments later on a cross from Kale Jensen to put the Vikings ahead. Goalkeeper Terrance Masterman preserved the lead with a leaping punch save on a dangerous free kick, and Jensen added a late goal in the closing minute. Siuslaw earns the 3–1 win and a confidence boost heading into postseason play.
Soccer Playoffs
On Saturday the Siuslaw Vikings boy’s soccer team will host the North Valley Knights in playoff action. The Knights had a tough road to the playoffs losing the last three games of the season but have been very effective against teams like La Pine, Rogue Rive and Cascade Christian. The Vikings have won 7 of their last 8 contests entering the playoff picture.
College Basketball
College basketball is gearing up for competition with games this week. The Oregon Ducks Men’s team will face Stanford tomorrow while the Women will be at home against western Oregon.
Viking Football
This Friday is senior Night for the Siuslaw Viking’s football team. The Vikings have 11 seniors on the squad including Micah Blankenship, Will Johnson, and Jaxon Chiang. The Vikings will face Coquille for their final matchup before state playoffs.
