Facilities Advisory Committee

The Siuslaw School District Facilities Advisory Committee will hold its final scheduled public meeting on Monday, November 10th. Committee members have been meeting for more than a year and a half and say public feedback is still needed as they finalize recommendations for the School Board. Monday’s session will include a tour of the high school and a review of proposed plans for constructing a replacement high school and renovating the elementary school. According to district officials, the presentation aims to help the community understand potential improvements and long-range facility priorities.

Global Recognition for Three Rivers Casino

Three Rivers Casino Resort is celebrating national recognition after earning a Theo Award at the Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas. The honor, awarded for Best Promotion or Giveaway, highlights the resort’s Mad Hatter’s Tea Party campaign. Casino officials say the win reflects the creativity and dedication of the Florence team. Meanwhile, King Estate Winery is also receiving national praise. Wine Enthusiast Magazine has named Ed King an “American Wine Legend,” honoring his leadership in elevating Oregon wine since the early 1990s. King says the recognition reflects decades of shared commitment and the progress the state’s wine industry has made on the global stage.

Light Up a Life

Peace Harbor Medical Center is preparing for its 30th annual Light Up a Life celebration, a tradition focused on remembrance and healing during the holiday season. Christina Harkness with Peace Harbor says there is a November 30 deadline for submitting names of loved ones to be recognized.

“You can call in to the office and give us the name of your loved one that you would like to have read at the ceremony. It does not have to be somebody who was on hospice. It could be anybody. And it doesn’t have to be somebody who just died this last year. Anybody that you would like to have remembered for the holidays, you can call and give us their name.”

The Light Up a Life ceremony will be held December 13 at the Florence Events Center from 2 to 3 p.m., and organizers say all are welcome to attend.
