20th Veteran’s Parade
Tomorrow marks the 20th anniversary of Florence’s Veterans Day Parade — a cherished community tradition honoring those who have served our nation in uniform. This year, there’s no pre-registration required. Participants are invited to line up at Florence Christian Church, 2nd and Ivy Streets, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The procession will step off at 1 p.m., making its way down Bay Street. Organizer Cal Applebee says this year’s Grand Marshals are Charlie and Terri Pennington of Florence. Patriotic music will air on KCST 106.9 from 12:30 to 1:30. And will include a special song “Well Worn Hats” written by Michael B. Scanlan, E-5 U.S. Army, 1967 to 1970, honoring the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans.
Lane County Allocates Money for Food
Lane County is allocating $200,000 from emergency reserves to boost food access and support families impacted by recent immigration enforcement actions. Funding will go to Food for Lane County to help feed residents while SNAP benefits remain unavailable, and to local non-profits assisting immigrant and refugee families with rent, food, and utility needs. County officials say the goal is to strengthen community connection and ensure Lane County remains a safe, healthy place for all who live and work here.
Tax Kicker for 2026
The Oregon Office of Economic Analysis has confirmed a 1.41 billion dollar revenue surplus for the 2023–2025 biennium, triggering the state’s “kicker” tax credit for 2025. The surplus will be returned to taxpayers as a credit on 2025 income tax returns filed in 2026, not as a check. Eligible taxpayers can calculate their credit by multiplying their 2024 tax liability by 9.863 percent, as certified by the OEA. Those who haven’t yet filed a 2024 return should do so to qualify. Taxpayers can use the “What’s My Kicker?” calculator at Revenue Online for estimates and may choose to donate their credit to the Oregon State School Fund or other approved charities.
