Siuslaw senior Danin Lacouture captured the 145-pound title to lead the Siuslaw–Mapleton girls to a second-place finish at the Deven Dawson Memorial in Harrisburg. The Lady Vikings scored 89.5 points with seven wrestlers placing, while Harrisburg won the 16-team event. Emma Ford and Hannah Richard each finished second, with Mia Goss and Molly Mills taking third. On the boys side, senior Jacob Mann opened his season by moving up to 285 pounds and finishing second at the Perry Burlison Invitational, earning 22 team points. Siuslaw hosts the Kickoff Duals Wednesday and competes at the Coast Classic this weekend.
Basketball
Mapleton girls opened its basketball season with back-to-back dominant wins. The Sailors rolled past Pacific 70-12 on Thursday, led by Lucie Burruss with 22 points, seven steals, and five rebounds, while Abbi Mendez Galvan added 11 points and seven steals. Burruss has now scored at least 21 points in three straight games. Mapleton followed up with a 63-16 win over Willamette Valley Christian on Friday, fueled by another standout performance from Burruss, who hit five three-pointers and finished with 29 points and nine rebounds. The Sailors are off to a strong 2-0 start to the season.
Siuslaw boys split over the weekend defeating Toledo on Friday afternoon and then dropping one to Junction City 58-48 on Saturday. The boys will host Reedsport tomorrow at 7 with pregame on KCST at 6:45. The Viking girls also faced Toledo and Junction City. They held close in the first matchup falling 43-33 and on Saturday against Junction city fell 40-16.
The Mapleton boys fought a touch matchup on Saturday falling to Willamette Valley Christian 31-28
Oregon Seeded 5th in CFP
Oregon has been selected as the No. 5 seed in the College Football Playoff and will host No. 12 James Madison on December 20 at Autzen Stadium, marking the first CFP game ever played there. The Ducks finished the regular season 11-1 and are making their second straight playoff appearance. The winner will advance to face Texas Tech in the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Day. Season ticket holders have until Monday morning to secure seats, with public sales beginning Tuesday.
College Hoops
UCLA defeated the Duck men on Saturday 74-63 and the lady ducks suffered their first loss of the season as the Bruins took the game by 21 points 80-59.
The Oregon State Beaver men defeated southern Utah on Saturday 81-70. The Beaver women defeated Alaska Anchorage yesterday 69-53.
