DUII Enforcement Increases
Deputies are stepping up DUI enforcement during the holiday season using grant-funded overtime, despite not having a dedicated traffic unit. Authorities say the extra patrols run through January 1st and are aimed at keeping roadways safe during Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. Drivers are reminded to plan a safe ride home, never drive after drinking or using drugs, and to step in if someone else is impaired. Law enforcement also urges party hosts to make sure guests leave with a sober driver and reminds everyone to buckle up.
Successful Toy and Food Drive
Three Rivers Casino Resort is wrapping up the holiday season by celebrating the success of its annual Food and Toy Drive. In Florence, the effort collected more than 4,200 pounds of food for local food shares, along with three large crates of toys and more than 40 bicycles, supporting over 100 families. In Coos Bay, an additional 1,400 pounds of food and more than 160 toys were donated. Organizers say the annual drive is made possible through community partnerships and local law enforcement agencies.
New Year Safety
New Year’s celebrations can be fun, but safety should remain a priority. Officials remind partygoers to plan ahead if alcohol is involved by designating a sober driver, using public transportation, or staying overnight. Hosts are encouraged to offer non-alcoholic drinks and avoid over-serving guests. People are also urged to watch out for pets, as loud music and fireworks can cause distress. Candles, fireworks, children, and animals should be kept safely separated to prevent accidents during holiday celebrations.
