Thirty-five teams took part in a three-division wrestling tournament hosted by Siuslaw High School over the weekend. Pleasant Hill won the varsity boys title, North Eugene claimed the varsity girls championship, and Springfield took first in the junior varsity boys division. Siuslaw’s varsity boys were led by 215-pound champion Jacob Mann, who was also named outstanding upper-weight wrestler, helping the team to a ninth-place finish overall. The Lady Vikings placed 11th, highlighted by Danin Lacouture’s championship performance at 140 pounds, while the boy’s junior varsity team finished seventh. Coach Neil Wartnik credited strong community support and local business involvement as key factors in the tournament’s success.

College Hoops

The Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team lost to #4 Michigan on Saturday. The Ducks led at the half 41-40 but the Wolverines took advantage of the Duck’s Nate Bittle and Jackson Shelstad being sidelined with injuries, final 81-71 Michigan.

The Oregon State men’s basketball team lost to Pacific 81-64 Saturday afternoon at Gill Coliseum. Yaak Yaak led the Beavers with 13 points, while Elias Ralph paced Pacific with 20. The Tigers pulled away early in the second half, building a double-digit lead and cruising to the win.
