Local Arrested on Drug Charges

Florence Police, with assistance from Oregon State Police and Reedsport Police, executed a search warrant Thursday morning, March 19th, at a residence on 10th Street. The warrant followed a prior investigation. During the operation, Bryant McMullen was taken into custody without incident. He is facing charges of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine and Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine. Authorities say the case remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released at this time.

Volunteers Needed

The City of Florence is seeking volunteers to serve on several Boards, Committees, and Commissions, with terms beginning June 1st, 2026. These groups play a key role in shaping local policy, identifying community needs, and supporting decision-making. Open positions are available on the Planning Commission, Florence Urban Renewal Agency, Environmental Management Advisory Committee, Public Arts Committee, Transportation Committee, and the Mobility Hub Project Advisory Committee. The temporary HUB-Pro committee will help guide planning and community engagement for the Mobility Hub project. Applications are due Monday, April 6th. More information is available on the City of Florence website at ci.florence.or.us

Distracted Driving Enforcement

The Florence Police Department will take part in a focused distracted driving enforcement campaign throughout the month of April. Officers will increase patrols targeting behaviors like texting, using handheld devices, and other distractions that take attention off the road. The effort is funded through a federal traffic safety grant administered by the Oregon Department of Transportation. Officials say distracted driving remains a serious issue nationwide, with more than 3,200 people killed and over 324,000 injured in 2023. Police remind drivers that distractions include more than phones, and encourage motorists to stay alert to help keep roads safe.

Goodwill to Support First Step Program

Goodwill Industries of Lane and South Coast Counties is partnering with First Step Florence for a week-long fundraising effort beginning Sunday, March 22nd through March 28th. Customers visiting the Florence Goodwill store can make cash donations or round up their purchases to the nearest dollar, with all contributions matched by Goodwill. Funds will support First Step Florence and its mission to provide transitional housing and services for families with children. Organizers say the campaign comes at an ideal time for spring cleaning, encouraging donations while giving back to the community.
