Florence Police Catch Robber in the Act
On April 17th, just before midnight, Florence Police responded to a reported alarm at the Buy2 Market on Highway 101. When officers arrived, they found an open window on the side of the closed business and observed a man inside the building. Police challenged the suspect through the open window and were able to safely take him into custody without incident. Investigators say the suspect had entered through an unlocked window and had collected numerous items from the store, placing them into a large duffel bag. The suspect was identified as 42‑year‑old Brian James Woolston. Officers also found Woolston in possession of a loaded handgun during the burglary. Police later confirmed Woolston had multiple outstanding warrants from several Oregon jurisdictions. Woolston was lodged at the Florence City Jail and later transported to Lane County Adult Corrections. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact Florence Police.
Voter Registration
Tuesday, April 28, 2026, is the final day to register to vote for the upcoming Primary Election. Election officials say anyone who wants to take part must complete their registration by the end of the day Tuesday. This includes new voters, people who have recently moved, or voters who need to update their registration information. Officials encourage eligible residents not to wait until the last minute, noting that registration is required in order to receive a ballot and participate in the primary.
City Council Positions
City officials say questions continue about how to run for a seat within the Florence city limits, but the timeline is later in the year. Officials explain that, under the city charter, all Florence city positions appear on the November general election ballot — not the spring election. As a result, ballots going out soon will not include any city races. The city elections office will open later this summer, overseen by the city recorder. Officials say details about the process will be shared during a presentation at the May 4th city council meeting, which will be recorded. General information and materials from previous elections are already available on the city’s website.
