Siuslaw Track and Field Results
Siuslaw senior Will Johnson broke a school record Friday at the Wally Chiochetti Invitational in Cottage Grove, posting a triple jump of 47 feet, 2 inches. Johnson also finished second in the pole vault and helped the Vikings’ 4-by-400 relay team place eighth. For the Lady Vikings, junior Aidell Cadet captured wins in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.18 seconds and in the high jump at 5 feet even. Sophomore Claire McNeill and freshman Maren Hughes also added points for Siuslaw. On the boys side, sophomore Henry Stone posted a personal best while finishing second in the 1,500, and freshman Henry Dotson also recorded a PR in the 3,000. The Vikings tied for seventh out of 16 schools, while the Lady Vikings finished 12th. District competition begins this week in Sutherlin.
Baseball/Softball Seasons End
The Siuslaw Vikings baseball team appears to have fallen short of an at-large berth to the OSAA 3A state playoffs after splitting a doubleheader Friday with Glide. The Wildcats won the opener 11-2, but Siuslaw rebounded for a 14-11 victory in game two. The Vikings close the season 13-12 overall and 7-8 in league play. Friday also marked Senior Night for seven Siuslaw players.
Glide swept Siuslaw Friday in a Far West League softball doubleheader, winning 16-6 and 15-0, to clinch a state playoff berth. The Lady Vikings finish the season 5-17 overall and 3-12 in league play. Charley Johnson led Siuslaw in the opener with a double, a run scored, and a stolen base, while Tara Boomer drove in two runs. Senior Elizabeth Redelfs was honored between games.
Lady Ducks Eliminated
The Oregon Ducks softball season came to an end Saturday at the NCAA Regional in Eugene, as Oregon fell to Mississippi State and Saint Mary’s at Jane Sanders Stadium. The Ducks played without ace pitcher Lyndsey Grein, sidelined by an eye infection. Oregon finished the season after battling through adversity, with head coach Melyssa Lombardi praising the team’s effort and resilience throughout the regional.
