Game Set for Saturday
While it may be Friday, there will be no Friday Night Lights this evening for the Siuslaw Vikings. The team heads to Bend today to take on top-ranked Vale in a neutral-site matchup at Caldera High School. Kickoff is set for noon, with pregame coverage on KCFM beginning at 11:45. Meanwhile, KCST will carry the Oregon Ducks season opener against Boise State. The Ducks and Broncos have developed a competitive rivalry over the years. Coverage begins at 11 a.m. with kickoff at 12:30. On KCFM, the Oregon State Beavers get the day started with pregame coverage at 8 a.m. and a 9 a.m. kickoff, followed immediately by coverage of the Siuslaw-Vale game from Bend.
Ems Comeback
The Eugene Emeralds pulled off a stunning 7-6 comeback win over the Hillsboro Hops Thursday night at PK Park. Trailing 6-0 entering the eighth inning, the Ems erupted for seven runs, sending 18 batters to the plate. Cam Maldonado sparked the rally with a three-run homer, and Damian Bravo’s bases-loaded walk proved to be the game-winner as Eugene closed out its home regular season in dramatic fashion.
Volleyball
Siuslaw wrapped up preseason volleyball play Thursday with a three-set loss to Newport, 23-25, 24-26, and 18-25, but Coach says the Vikings showed some of their best intensity of the season. Siuslaw led much of the first two sets and challenged a strong Newport squad throughout the night. Maren Hughes paced the attack with 8 kills, while freshman Kinley Krieger added 5 service aces. The Vikings open Far West League play Tuesday against Coquille.
