Vikings Defeat Falcons

The Siuslaw Vikings improved to 3-and-1 Saturday with a 36-12 nonleague win over Elmira at Hans Petersen Field. Junior quarterback Jericho Lake accounted for four touchdowns, rushing for three and passing for another. Dylan Gray added a 90-yard touchdown run. Siuslaw wraps up preleague play Friday night at home against Creswell.

Cross Country

Siuslaw cross country turned in a strong showing at the Northwest Classic in Eugene, with the Viking boys placing second and the girls finishing fourth. Junior Henry Stone led the boys with a second-place finish overall, while Claire McNeill paced the girls with a 21st-place run. Siuslaw now turns its attention to the annual Woahink Lake Invitational, set for next Saturday,

Viking Volleyball

The Siuslaw Lady Vikings split results at a volleyball tournament in Brookings-Harbor Saturday. Siuslaw swept Rogue River in pool play, but dropped two matches to Eureka, California. Senior Stella Duman led the Vikings with 25 kills, 9 aces and 5 blocks. The Lady Vikings return to Brookings-Harbor Tuesday for Far West League action.

College Football

Oregon bounced back in a big way Friday night, crushing Portland State 84-nothing at Autzen Stadium. The Ducks set a modern-era school scoring record, while Dante Moore threw four touchdowns. Oregon improves to 2-and-1 and opens Big Ten play next Saturday at USC. Oregon State picked up its first win under head coach JaMarcus Shephard, routing Montana 52-17. Braden Atkinson threw five touchdown passes and ran for another as the Beavers improved to 1-and-2.
