DHS Asks for Update Income Information
The Oregon Department of Human Services is asking about 11,000 Oregonians receiving SNAP or TANF benefits to provide updated income information by September 28th as part of an effort to improve payment accuracy. ODHS began mailing notices September 16th. Officials say people who receive a notice should respond by the deadline, even if they believe the information is incorrect. An eligibility worker will review the case and determine whether benefits should change. Those who do not respond could see their benefits reduced or their case closed beginning in October. ODHS says the income review compares information reported by recipients with employment and wage data available through The Work Number database. State officials emphasize that receiving a notice does not automatically mean someone will lose benefits and encourage anyone with questions to contact ODHS for assistance.
Suicide Prevention Walk and Health Expo
Western Lane Crisis Response is inviting the community to Miller Park tomorrow for its Suicide Prevention Walk and Health Expo. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is designed to promote hope, awareness, and support for people affected by mental health challenges and crisis. Organizers say participants can walk at any time during the event and connect with local health, wellness, and crisis response providers. Western Lane Crisis Response says the goal is to reduce stigma, strengthen community connections, and remind people that help is available. The event is open to the public at Miller Park.
Florence Festival of Books
Tomorrow, the Florence Events Center hosts the Florence Festival of Books, celebrating the theme “The World Needs Your Story.” The one-day event features 41 exhibitors, five workshops, a keynote speaker, and an authors conversation. Special guests include local writing coach Ned Hickson and his Siuslaw Middle School storytelling team, along with Rose Estes, creator of the bestselling “Endless Quest” Dungeons & Dragons adventure books. The festival runs from 9:30 to 5:30 at the Florence Events Center. Admission starts at $3, with free entry for those 18 and under.
