Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from
The Associated Press

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Felix Hernandez pitched eight innings of
four-hit ball to win at Angel Stadium for the first time since
2006, and the Seattle Mariners snapped a five-game skid and slowed
the Los Angeles Angels’ playoff surge with a 2-1 victory last
night. Justin Smoak and Kyle Seager scored unearned runs for the
Mariners, who had lost 18 of their last 21 games at Angel Stadium
before Hernandez outdueled Ervin Santana and silenced the Angels’
improved lineup for his sixth victory in eight starts.

UNDATED (AP) – Last week, before the game against LSU, Oregon
quarterback Darron Thomas suggested a loss to the Tigers would
spell the end of the Ducks’ season. Then Oregon lost. So what is
Thomas’ take now? Is the season all but kaput? Oregon fell nine
spots to No. 13 in The Associated Press Top 25 yesterday after the
40-27 loss to LSU at Cowboys Stadium. It’s the lowest the Ducks
have been ranked since 2009, when they were No. 14 in the 10th week
of the season.

HONOLULU (AP) – Two Hawaii starters who were suspended for the
season opener after being arrested on charges of misdemeanor
assault will play Saturday at Washington. Warriors coach Greg
McMackin says outside linebacker Aaron Brown and receiver Darius
Bright are back on the team. The players were arrested Aug. 28
following a fight at a Waikiki nightclub. Brown is a senior from
Puyallup (pew-AL’-up), Wash.

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) – The Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships
are expected to draw more than 300 gymnasts from 14 nations for the
three-day event next March at the Comcast Arena in Everett (Wash.).
Famed coach Bela Karolyi (BEH’-lah kah-ROH’-lee) joined officials
yesterday in announcing the event that will showcase talent headed
for the Olympic Games in London. USA Gymnastics officials say the
Pacific Rim Championships will be the largest international
gymnastics event in the state of Washington since the 1990 Goodwill
Games.
