Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from
The Associated Press

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – Shenise Johnson scored 18 points and
No. 9 Miami beat Alaska-Anchorage 72-55 yesterday in the opening
round of the Carrs-Safeway Great Alaska Shootout. The Hurricanes
shot just 27 percent in the first half against the Division II
Seawolves. Hanna Johansson, Kaylie Robison, Hallie Holmstead and
Tijera Mathews had 10 points apiece for Alaska-Anchorage.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – E.J. Singler hit four free throws in the
final minute to give Oregon the lead and the Ducks held off
Nebraska 83-76 last night. Garrett Sim led the Ducks with 20
points. Singler had 14 points, Olu Ashaolu added 12 and Jeremy
Jacob scored 10 points for Oregon. Jorge Brian Diaz scored 21
points to lead Nebraska. Both teams are now 3-1.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – Isaiah Canaan scored 19 points to lead
Murray State to a 64-62 win over Alaska-Anchorage in the opening
game of the Great Alaska Shootout last night. Ivan Aska had 13
points, including a pair of free throws with 5 seconds to play to
give the Racers a five-point lead. Donte Poole also had 13 points
for Murray State; Stacy Wilson scored 12 in 17 minutes off the
bench. Taylor Rohde led Alaska-Anchorage with 19.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – Michael Williams scored 23 points as
San Francisco held off Dartmouth for a 71-69 victory in a
first-round game at the Great Alaska Shootout last night in
Anchorage. Rashad Green added 18 points and Angelo Caloiaro 16 for
the Dons (5-1), who will play Murray State in Friday’s semifinal.
David Rufful had 19 points and R.J Griffin 17 for the Big Green,
who will face Alaska-Anchorage in a consolation semifinal on
Friday.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – If a “Belieber” is someone who supports
pop star Justin Bieber, no matter what anyone else says, then a
“Believer” – in sports terms – is someone who does the same for
the Oregon State Beavers. They know hardly anyone gives them a
chance against No. 9 Oregon on Saturday, though the extent to which
some say they’re supposed to lose has players shaking their heads.
Defensive end Scott Crichton counters naysayers by pointing out the
Beavers were underdogs last week, too. The result: A 38-21 win over
Washington.
