PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Several Occupy Portland protestors huddled
together for warmth in Shemanski Park after police told them to
take down tents or be kicked out. The Oregonian reports the
demonstrators agreed to take down a tent to stay in the park last
night. On Saturday night police arrested 19 demonstrators setting
up structures in the South Park blocks.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The family and friends of a slain Portland
girl have observed what would have been her 15th birthday at Rocky
Butte. KGW reports they left flowers, balloons and birthday cards
for Yashanee Vaughn just a few hundred yards from where her body
was found in July in a shallow grave. She had disappeared four
months earlier. Her ex-boyfriend is charged with murder.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Veterinarians at the Oregon Zoo euthanized
an aging giraffe to end his suffering. Akeem was found lying still
Saturday in the giraffe barn, and keepers could do nothing to help
him. KGW reports they believe he died of old age. He was 25. In the
wild giraffes live 15 to 20 years. He sired three calves over the
years in the zoo’s Africa Savanna exhibit.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Amanda Johnson had 23 point and 13 rebounds
yesterday as Oregon defeated Portland 88-78 as the Ducks are off to
their best start in six seasons. ReZina TecleMariam led the Pilots
with 20 points, hitting 6 of 11 3-point attempts. The Ducks never
trailed, and the only time the score was tied came with 8:12 left
in the first half when a Pilots 3-pointer made it 20-20.
