DEXTER, Ore. (AP) – A Lane County roadhouse that had a few

minutes of fame when a scene in “Animal House” was filmed there

has new owners – yet again. The Register-Guard reports that a

series of owners have failed to make a go at the Dexter Lake Club

where a band named Otis Day and the Knights performed in the 1978

movie. The new owners say they’ll emphasize both the bar and the

café, and offer entertainment, as well.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A former judge on the Oregon Court of

Appeals says she’s running for state attorney general. The

announcement yesterday from Ellen Rosenblum could set up a race

among Democrats for the nomination to succeed John Kroger, the

incumbent who isn’t seeking re-election, citing health reasons. A

former federal prosecutor, Rosenblum could face another former

federal prosecutor, Dwight Holton. He recently resigned to join a

Portland law firm. No Republican has announced plans to run.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A doctor says a 14-year-old middle school

student who collapsed in cardiac arrest at a school basketball

practice in La Center, Wash., is in critical condition at a

Portland hospital. Dr. Mark Banks said yesterday that Cody Sherrell

was showing signs of improvement. He’s also been placed in

therapeutic hypothermia – his body cooled in hopes of preventing

any further brain damage. The cause of the boy’s collapse is

unknown.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A woman who has helped develop a

nationally recognized hunger-relief network in Oregon and southwest

Washington says she’ll retire as CEO of the Oregon Food Bank,

effective June 30. In 1988, Rachel Bristol helped form the Oregon

Food Bank. She later led two capital campaigns that allowed the

food bank to expand from a single facility of 10,000 square feet to

four facilities that cover more than 150,000 square feet.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland woman with no obvious

impairment and no history of traffic infractions has pleaded no

contest to felony hit and run in a wrong-way crash that killed a

pedestrian. Judge John Wittmayer agreed yesterday not to send the

now 88-year-old Helen Elizabeth Quimiro to prison, giving her three

years of probation, 40 hours of community service, and ordering her

to pay $3,000 in burial expenses for the 2011 collision.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Mayor Sam Adams wants sponsors of

a Republican presidential debate on March 19 to help the city’s

budget by moving the site. Adams tells the Oregonian that police

overtime costs are more than $1.5 million over budget, largely

because of the Occupy Portland protest.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – Authorities in Lane County say it

appears a 20-year-old man has been killed by an accidental shot

from a gun his younger brother was holding. KVAL-TV reports the

victim was identified as Steven Ogg. The brother, described as a

juvenile, was not named. The sheriff’s office says Ogg was shot in

the chest Tuesday afternoon.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Trail Blazers have assigned

forward Luke Babbitt and guard Armon Johnson to the Idaho Stampede

of the NBA’s D-League. Johnson has been inactive so far this season

for Portland; Babbitt played two minutes against Sacramento. Both

are second-year players. Babbitt averaged 19 points and 7.6

rebounds in 13 games with Idaho last season. In nine games,

Johnson’s average was 18.2 points and 4.2 boards.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks will have to make a

decision on 18 unrestricted free agents this offseason. The list of

priorities starts with 1,200-yard running back Marshawn Lynch and

defensive end Red Bryant but there are others on the next tier who

are just as important for the Seahawks. Seattle has key choices to

make with two starting linebackers – David Hawthorne and Leroy Hill

– who are both free to walk, along with fullback Michael Robinson

and a pair of important offensive line reserves in Breno Giacomini

and Paul McQuistan.

SEATTLE (AP) – Washington State will host Washington in the

Apple Cup on Friday, Nov. 23, in Pullman, the day after

Thanksgiving. The Pac-12 announced its 2012 football schedules

yesterday. The schools have typically tried to avoid playing around

the Thanksgiving holiday in Pullman in the past because most

students are not on campus during the Thanksgiving break.

Washington State’s first season under new coach Mike Leach begins

Sept. 1 at BYU. That same day Washington hosts San Diego State at

Seattle’s CenturyLink Field.
