SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – Elias Harris scored 19 points and grabbed
16 rebounds as Gonzaga beat BYU 74-63 in a battle for second place
in the West Coast Conference. Brandon Davies scored 23 points for
BYU, which had won five straight games but was doomed by woeful
shooting. Gonzaga shot just 39 percent, but BYU was even worse,
making just 30 percent of its shots.
POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) – Tremayne Johnson scored five of his
seven points during the final 33 seconds, converting 5 of 6 free
throws, to secure Eastern Washington’s 85-78 win over Idaho State.
The win ensured a Big Sky playoff berth for the Eagles and puts
them in a position to garner a home game during the first round.
Eagles guard Cliff Colimon led all scorers with 21.
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) – Kevin Olekaibe scored 25 of his
career-high 43 points in the second half as Fresno State beat
Seattle 78-72 in a nonconference game. Olekaibe went 12 of 25 from
the field and made all 14 of his free throws to become the first
Fresno State player to score 40 points in a game since Courtney
Alexander in 2000. Aaron Broussard scored 19 points for Seattle.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Rob Jones had 12 points and 13 rebounds
and Saint Mary’s defeated Portland 70-43 to give the Gaels at least
a share of the West Coast Conference title for the second straight
season. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for Saint
Mary’s, which dropped out of the national rankings with losses in
three of their previous four games.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – Charles Odum scored 38 points on 11 of
16 shooting and Portland State beat Sacramento State 94-88.
Portland State trailed by two with 8:16 left until sparking a 15-3
run over the next 5:26 to lead 82-72. Sacramento State clawed to
within 85-80 with two minutes remaining, but Odum responded with 6
of 6 free throw shooting to seal the win.
