Taking a look at Coast Radio Sports…
Prep softball yesterday… the Marshfield Pirates were in Florence for a non-league double-header against the Siuslaw Vikings and took both games… but they were very different. In game one, the Vikings held a one-run lead, but the Pirates capitalized on a fielding error and a past ball to tie it up. Then, Marshfield’s Breanne Johnson drove a walk-off home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the ninth for the 5-4 win. In game two, the Pirates scored ten runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back in a 12-1, five-inning victory over the Vikings.
On the baseball diamond, the Vikings were in Coos Bay where they dismantled the Marshfield Pirates 15-2 in five innings. Joeseph Dotson threw two innings for the win, John Dodson came in for three innings to close things out. Josh Iabachello (yabba-KELL-oh) was three-for-four at the plate with three RBI; Jake Thompson was four-for-four with two doubles, a home run and seven RBI.
Siuslaw Baseball standout Ryan Smith is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the week. The Viking Hurler threw four innings of a 4-2 victory over North Marion last week, giving up six hits and striking out three, but helped himself at the plate by going four-for-5 with three triples. Honorable mention to Kylie Brandt… the Viking Softballer was 5-for-eight at the plate in two games against Philomath last week, with one home run and six RBI.
