ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Michael Young hit a two-run homer and had four RBIs to back Derek Holland, leading the Texas Rangers over the Seattle Mariners 5-3. Young had an RBI single in the first. With Texas leading 1-0 in the fifth for the third game in a row, Young hit an opposite-field homer into the first row in right for a 3-0 lead against Jason Vargas. Young added a run-scoring single in the eighth off Erasmo Ramirez. Kyle Seager hit a 438-foot homer into the right upper deck in the seventh for Seattle.

SEATTLE (AP) — Eric Wedge was all set to return to his house last night, for the first time in 2½ months. From Washington state to Arizona, to Japan, back to Arizona, to California, to Texas and finally back to the Pacific Northwest, the Seattle Mariners’ two-month, transcontinental spring training/opening road trip will finally come to an end tonight when they host Oakland. The traveling has been taxing on the players and coaches, but Seattle is off to a 4-4 start and will play the next nine games at home.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge of the Trail Blazers will have surgery on his right hip and will miss the rest of the season. The team said yesterday no date has been set for the arthroscopic procedure, which will repair a slight labral tear. Aldridge says he has had pain for about two weeks and is unsure how the injury occurred. Aldridge is averaging 21.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists this season while shooting a career-high 51.2 percent.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to one-year deals with linebackers Leroy Hill and Matt McCoy. Hill has spent his entire career with Seattle and is one of two remaining players from its NFC championship team in 2005. McCoy has been with the Seahawks for two seasons, but missed most of the 2011 season. Hill is coming off the first full season of his career. After playing one game in 2010, he started all 16 games at outside linebacker and finished with 89 tackles and four sacks.

SEATTLE (AP) — There’s a slight limp and the scars along the front of Steve Zakuani’s (zak-WAHN’-ee’s) right leg from several surgeries. Listening to the recovering Seattle Sounders midfielder talk, the physical changes are all he’s carrying from the ugly tackle last year by Colorado’s Brian Mullan that snapped Zakuani’s lower right leg. There appear to be no grudges. Mullan and the Rapids travel to Seattle tomorrow, and Mullan is expected make his first appearance against the Sounders since that tackle.
