PHOENIX (AP) — Marcin Gortat had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Steve Nash had 13 assists to pace the Phoenix Suns to a 125-107 win over the Portland Trail Blazers last night. The Suns had six players score in double figures, built a 20-point lead by the end of the third quarter and cruised to their fourth win in their last six games. Channing Frye added 19 points for Phoenix and Jared Dudley had 18. With their win and a victory by Denver over Houston, the Suns and Rockets have identical records.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Portland Timbers have acquired Columbian forward Sebastian Rincon on loan from Uruguay’s first-division Club Atletico Atenas. Rincon has been training with the Timbers since February. The 18-year-old can join the roster once he receives his International Transfer Certificate. Rincon played youth club soccer in the U.S. and in the youth system of Deportivo Cali. He started his professional career with Columbia’s Independiente Santa Fe in 2010 when he was 16.

SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Mariners will return to the diamond today after an off-day Monday to open a three-game series against the Cleveland Indians. On Sunday, Brendan Ryan hit a two-run homer and Justin Smoak added a solo shot as the Mariners beat the Oakland Athletics 5-3. Ryan’s homer in the second inning was his first of the season. Seattle’s starting shortstop hit three home runs last season all of them coming on the road. Seattle will enter today’s game at 6-5. Cleveland is 4-4.
