DETROIT (AP) – Alex Liddi had a career-high three hits, including a solo homer, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Detroit Tigers 7-4. Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila homered for the Tigers, but it wasn’t enough to overcome an early 4-0 deficit. Michael Saunders drove in three runs for Seattle, which snapped a four-game losing streak. Jason Vargas pitched six innings for the Mariners, allowing four runs and six hits. He struck out four and walked one. Three relievers finished, with Brandon League pitching a hitless ninth for his sixth save. Max Scherzer allowed five runs and 10 hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked two.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – While the Seattle Seahawks hold the No. 12 pick in the first round of the NFL draft tomorrow night, one thing general manager John Schneider has shown in his first two seasons as Seattle’s draft guru is his ability to find players in the later rounds. Some of Seattle’s biggest successes the past two drafts have come in the later rounds. That’s why it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Seahawks try to trade out of the 12th spot to acquire picks later in the draft. But if Seattle stays at No. 12, the areas of need would appear to be adding depth at linebacker and finding another defensive end with pass-rushing skills.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) – A skateboard shop’s latest collaboration with Nike has a distinctively Michigan flair. Grand Rapids-based Premier is set to show off a blue and gray Nike sneaker that features leather embossed with Petoskey stones. The shoe is being called the “Petoskey Stone Dunk.” Premier co-owner Eric Blanding tells the Petoskey News-Review his store always thought that Michigan’s state stone “would look cool on a shoe.” Nike Inc. is based in Beaverton, Ore. The “Petoskey Stone Dunk” retails for $104.
