ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Ichiro (EE’-cheer-oh) Suzuki homered and scored three times, Kyle Seager drove in four runs and the Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles Angels 8-6 last night. Michael Saunders added three hits to complete an impressive road trip. Saunders went 19 for 39 during Seattle’s nine-game jaunt to Texas, Chicago and Anaheim, including five games with at least three hits. Shawn Kelley won in relief of starter Hector Noesi. Tom Wilhelmsen pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Taj McWilliams-Franklin scored 17 points and the Minnesota Lynx improved to 8-0 with a 79-55 rout of Seattle last night. The Lynx moved within one victory of tying the WNBA record set by Los Angeles in 2001 of victories to start the season. The Sparks also won their first nine games in 2003. Minnesota pulled off its most lopsided win of the season without leading scorer Seimone Augustus, who was sidelined with a right quad strain. Tanisha Wright led Seattle with 14 points.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says the team intends to give Brian Banks a serious look – and potentially an invite to minicamp – during his tryout today. Carroll released a statement through the team yesterday saying Banks deserves a “second chance at his dream.” Banks was a one-time high school star at Long Beach Poly who was recently exonerated in a California rape case in which he was falsely accused. The tryout will not be open to media.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Timbers have announced that they’ve acquired forward Danny Mwanga (muh-WAHN-guh) from the Philadelphia Union in exchange for forward Jorge Perlaza. Mwanga, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 MLS Super Draft, is a local favorite, having played at Portland’s Jefferson High School before going to Oregon State. He played as a youngster for the Timbers Alliance club, the Westside Timbers. Mwanga is a native of the Congo.

UNDATED (AP) – World champion sprinter Carmelita Jeter remains on the fence about whether she will run both the 100 and 200 at the U.S. Olympic trials later this month in Eugene, Ore. Jeter said Wednesday she will compete in the 100 and then see how her legs feel. She will basically have five days to rest before the start of the 200. The 32-year-old Jeter is coming off a sensational 2011 season in which she won the 100 at worlds in South Korea and finished second in the 200.
