SEATTLE (AP) – Yonder Alonso homered in the seventh inning and Jason Marquis and three relievers combined on an eight-hitter as the San Diego Padres beat the Seattle Mariners 1-0 last night. Alonso hit his second homer of the season – and seventh of his career – on the first pitch of the seventh inning from starter Hector Noesi. Marquis gave up six hits and four walks and struck out four over 6 1-3 innings. Huston (HYOO’-stuhn) Street pitched the ninth for his seventh save.

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) – Epiphanny Prince scored 17 points, Sylvia Fowles had 16 points and 15 rebounds and the Chicago Sky beat the Seattle Storm 74-58 last night for their franchise-record sixth consecutive win. Fowles got her eighth double-double in a row, matching her own single-season league record set last year. Tamera Young scored 12 points and Ruth Riley added 10 for Chicago, which never trailed. Tina Thompson scored 13 points and Ann Wauters had 12 for Seattle.

SEATTLE (AP) – Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will be part of the investment group led by Chris Hansen that has proposed a new NBA/NHL arena in the city of Seattle. Ballmer’s inclusion in the investment group was revealed on yesterday in a letter from Hansen to King County Executive Dow Constantine and Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn. Ballmer is a longtime basketball fan and was part of a group that made a last-ditch effort to try to keep the SuperSonics in Seattle prior to their move to Oklahoma City in 2008.

TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Sounders will be without forward David Estrada for the next eight to 12 weeks after he broke his left foot in training. Estrada’s injury was announced by the team yesterday. He was injured in practice on Tuesday, walking off early with an ice bag wrapped around his foot. Estrada has proven to be one of Seattle’s biggest surprises early in the MLS season. He leads Seattle with five goals in MLS play and has started 12 of 13 league matches. He’ll have surgery today.
