MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The agent for Portland restricted free-agent Nicolas Batum (bah-TOOM’) tells The Associated Press that his client has reached a verbal agreement with the Timberwolves on a new deal and wants the Blazers to let him go to Minnesota. Terms weren’t disclosed. Batum can sign the offer on July 11 and the Blazers would have three days to match it.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Brandon Roy is starting his comeback with the Minnesota Timberwolves. A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that the former All-Star guard has agreed to terms on a two-year, $10.4 million deal to join the Wolves. The former Portland guard retired before last season due to chronic knee issues. The Oregonian first reported the deal.
NEW YORK (AP) – The New York Liberty have signed guard-forward Katelan Redmon. The former Gonzaga star was a third-round selection, 36th overall, by the Liberty in this year’s WNBA draft. She appeared in one preseason game for New York, scoring 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting in 16 minutes against Connecticut, before being waived during training camp on May 27.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Timbers have acquired defender Kosuke Kimura from the Colorado Rapids for allocation money and an international slot. Kimura has spent six seasons with the Rapids, playing in 117 matches with four goals and eight assists. He’s played in 12 matches this season with a goal and two assists. Kimura played at Western Illinois University.
