Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

SEATTLE (AP) – Felix Hernandez broke Alex Rodriguez’s left hand when he hit him with a pitch in the eighth inning, and the Seattle Mariners’ ace picked up his fifth straight win in a 4-2 victory over the New York Yankees last night. Hernandez allowed a home run to Curtis Granderson in the first inning – the first long ball he’s allowed in his last eight starts. Hernandez also hit Derek Jeter and former teammate Ichiro Suzuki in 7 1-3 innings of four-hit ball.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Samir Carruthers scored and Aston Villa of the English Premier League defeated the Portland Timbers 5-4 on penalty kicks in a friendly last night. After both teams made their first four kicks, Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan stopped Bright Dike’s kick for Portland. That set up a chance to win for Carruthers, who connected in the top left corner. Regulation ended in a 2-2 draw after the Timbers came alive in the final 15 minutes.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks have announced their agreement on a multi-year deal with defensive end Chris Clemons, who was due to become a free agent at the end of the 2012 season. Terms haven’t been released. Clemons’ agent, Donal Henderson, first confirmed the sides had agreed to a new contract on Monday night.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Pac-12 media expects Oregon will win the North Division title. Oregon is the defending Rose Bowl champion for the first time in 95 years, but the Ducks will go through a transition with the departures of star ball-carrier LaMichael James and quarterback Darron Thomas, who went undrafted after leaving early. USC has been picked to win the Pac-12 in the annual preseason poll.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – A second NBA exhibition featuring Anchorage native Mario Chalmers scheduled for Alaska’s largest city has been canceled this year. The Mario V Chalmers Foundation NBA Game scheduled for Aug. 3 was canceled yesterday. Sullivan Arena officials said Chalmers cited injuries, free agency and the Olympics as factors in not being able to fill out a roster.
