MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Samuel Deduno dominated for seven innings, Trevor Plouffe homered and had four RBIs, and the Minnesota Twins beat the Seattle Mariners 10-0. The normally wild Deduno struck out a career-high nine with no walks to help the Twins win for just the fourth time in their last 20 games. Jason Vargas failed to finish five innings for his second start in a row.

UNDATED (AP) – Hurricane Isaac has forced Oregon State and Nicholls State to postpone their season opener that was set for Saturday at Reser Stadium in Corvallis. Oregon State officials said last night that the game will be rescheduled. The Nicholls State campus in Thibodaux, La., is closed because of Isaac. The team was scheduled to take a charter flight to Oregon tomorrow.

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) – The Oakland Raiders have claimed defensive back Coye Francies on waivers from the Seattle Seahawks. The Raiders announced the move yesterday, two days after Seattle waived Francies. He played in eight games with the Cleveland Browns from 2009-10 and also has experience as a kick returner. The Raiders waived defensive back Conroy Black.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Trail Blazers have added Dale Osbourne of the NBA D-League’s Tulsa 66ers to head coach Terry Stotts’ staff. Osbourne worked for the Oklahoma City Thunder affiliate as an assistant coach for parts of three seasons before becoming head coach last year. Osbourne joins Kaleb Canales, Jay Triano, David Vanterpool and Kim Hughes.

SEATTLE (AP) – The man hoping to bring an NBA team back to Seattle has bought another parcel of land in the area where he plans to build a new arena. KING-TV says Chris Hansen’s company has closed on an $8 million purchase of a half-acre property where the Showbox SODO music venue sits. Hansen plans a $490 million arena that’d also be home to an NHL team.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Timbers have hired Caleb Porter as their head coach for the 2013 season. The 37-year-old Porter has spent the past seven seasons at Akron and will stay with the college program through this season. He recently served as the head coach of the U.S. U-23 national team. The Timbers fired coach John Spencer on July 9.
