REEDSPORT, Ore. (AP) – Police say a man sought in a reported abduction has shot himself to death in a Reedsport motel room. The World newspaper reports that SWAT officers who broke out the room’s back window late yesterday found Benny Pishione dead on the bathroom floor. He had been holed up alone in the room all day.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – No charges will be filed against Lane County Commissioner Rob Handy over allegations he misused his office. The Eugene Register-Guard reports state investigators found no evidence sufficient to support accusations of official misconduct raised by a Eugene businessman and member of the local utility board. They said Handy improperly solicited money to pay down a debt.
VALE, Ore. (AP) – Police in Eastern Oregon and Idaho say they’ve conducted 11 raids in an investigation of the misuse of Oregon’s medical marijuana law. The Ontario Argus-Observer reports no arrests were made, and Malheur County Sheriff Brian Wolfe said none is expected this week. He said a substantial amount of marijuana will be confiscated.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland State coach Nigel Burton has fired defensive coordinator Eric Jackson effective immediately. The Vikings opened with a victory over Carroll College but fell 45-37 at North Dakota last weekend. Portland State travels to Washington to face the Huskies on Saturday.
