Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Zack Greinke (GREHN’-kee) had a season-high 13 strikeouts in five innings, and the Angels got home runs from Torii Hunter and Erick Aybar last night in a 5-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners that kept Los Angeles two games behind Oakland for the second AL wild card. The 20 combined strikeouts by Angels pitchers tied a major league record for a nine-inning game.

SEATTLE (AP) – Pete Carroll says he doesn’t care about sentiments that the Seattle Seahawks’ win over the Green Bay Packers is a tainted victory because of a disputed call on the final play of the game. During his weekly radio appearance yesterday morning on KIRO-AM in Seattle, Carroll said he understands why there is so much outrage about the call that awarded Golden Tate a 24-yard TD reception and gave the Seahawks a 14-12 win. But he says the call ruling it a simultaneous catch, awarding the reception to the offense, was correct.

NEW YORK (AP) – The NFL has upheld the Seahawks’ 14-12 win over the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football. The league said in a statement yesterday that Seattle’s last-second touchdown pass should not have been overturned. The NFL says Seahawks receiver Golden Tate should have been called for offensive pass interference before the catch, which would have clinched a Packers victory, but that cannot be reviewed by instant replay.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) – NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman downplayed the threat of the Oilers moving to Seattle yesterday as the Edmonton mayor predicted that an NHL team in Seattle wouldn’t sell out its games. Bettman says an arena deal in Edmonton is achievable, “and with a new arena there should be no reason to have any doubts about the future of the Oilers in Edmonton.” The team’s lease at aging Rexall Place is set to expire in 2014, and Oilers owner Daryl Katz and other officials were in Seattle on Monday for meetings about a possible relocation.
