Far West Football a Night of Lopsided Wins

The Siuslaw Vikings scored 28 points and put up 239 yards total offense in the first quarter alone Friday night, then cruised to a 41-12 win over the Sutherlin Bulldogs to improve to 5-and-oh overall… two-and-oh in Far West League Football.  It was a night of lopsided wins in the Far West… Brookings-Harbor fell to Douglas 47-12; North Bend demolished South Umpqua 56-nothing.

In the 2A ranks, Gold Beach beat Reedsport 42-14; and in the Mountain West League McKenzie downed Mapleton 56-12.

Cross Country Results

At the Paul Mariman Invitational Cross Country meet in Philomath Saturday Matthew Campbell, Mack Marbas and Mitchell Butler were one-two-three; Hayden Schaffner was 7th and Brian Schofield and Seth Campbell were 14th and 15th as the Viking Boys outscored the nearest competitor by 43 points to claim the team title.  Marbas’ time of 16:07 was his fastest ever at 5K.

Katy Potter was edged out by Hidden Valley’s Sierra Brown to finish in second individually, Courtney King was 8th; Katy Wells 11th and the Siuslaw Girls were fourth in a closely scored race.  Molalla won it with 70 points, followed by La Salle at 74 and Scappoose with 78.  The Vikings had 90 points.

Prep Schedule

One quick look at the schedule this evening, the Siuslaw Volleyball team will be in Sutherlin to open the second half of the Far West season.

Ducks Dump the Dawgs

Turning to the college gridiron… Number two Oregon took care of business Saturday against the Washington Huskies.  Marcus Mariota threw for 198 yards and four touchdowns as the Ducks beat then 23rd ranked Washington 52-21.  The Ducks have this weekend off before resuming play October 18th against Arizona State.

Beavers Rise in the Ranking

Number 14 Oregon State moved up to number ten in the rankings after overcoming a shaky start against the Washington State Cougars for a 19-6 win in Corvallis.  Jordan Poyer picked off three interceptions.  Sean Mannion passed for 270 yards but gave up three interceptions of his own.  The Beavers will be in Provo, Utah this weekend where they’ll face Brigham Young University.
