Jake Thompson carried the ball ten times for 107 yards and two touchdowns and the Siuslaw Vikings remain undefeated after beating the Douglas Trojans in Winston last night 28-14. One of Thompson’s TD runs came on a second down and seven from the Vikings’ own 12-yard line. He scampered 88 yards and the Vikings went up by two scores. The Trojans tied it in the third quarter, but a couple of quick scores put the number one ranked Vikings back on top for good. The final score of the game came in the first minute of the fourth quarter when Christian Jakobsen scooped up a loose ball and returned the recovered fumble 36 yards into the end zone.
On the volleyball court last night, the Reedsport Braves held off the Gold Beach Panthers in three games. The Braves are the number one ranked team in the 2A.
In the Mountain West League, Liz Harry and Dani Simington had 11 kills each and the Mapleton Sailors downed Eddyville in four games at home last night. The win keeps them in a tie for third place with Triangle Lake with two league matches remaining.
On the schedule… The Mapleton Sailors are at home this evening against the Mohawk Indians for 8-man football. Coast Radio Sports will air the game in a special presentation that begins at 6:45… kickoff is set for seven. Reedsport will be at home against the Bandon Tigers.
On the cross country course tomorrow the Siuslaw Vikings will be at Portland’s Fern Hill Park for the Concordia Classic. The Viking boys are ranked number one in the 4A; the girls 8th.
And, the number ten ranked Beavers will take on the BYU Cougars at 12:30 tomorrow afternoon in Provo, Utah… airtime on KCFM is set for 11:30.
